take a hint
この表現は「空気を読む」「遠回しのメッセージを察する」という意味です。相手が直接は言わないけれど、ほのめかすことで自分に行動を促しているときに、それに気づく（または気づかない）様子を指します。逆に「can’t take a hint」は「空気が読めない」という批判になります。
